  1. National Technology Day celebrated in India:
    On 11th May 2015, India observes the National Technology day. This day was remarkable after operation Pokhran-II and Operation Shakti, when the series of five nuclear bomb test explosions conducted the same day in 1998.

    In 1974, India’s first nuclear weapon explosion conducted, followed by operation Shakti on May 1994, 24 years later. Pokhran-II is considered the important operation that enhances India's technology skills, therefore PM announced its day of remembrance as National Technology Day.

    For Scientific, industrial and educational sector, this day is achievement day bringing in the country's development closer together.
  2. Kamath appointed as President of New Development Bank:
    KV Kamath chairman of ICICI Bank is appointed as first president of the New Development Bank (NDB) for the BRICS nations. Kamath, aged 67 will serve a five-year term at the institution.

    Member of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) in the last meeting signed an agreement to lay down the foundation of the New Development Bank having its headquarter in Shanghai.

    The bank will an begin its working with an initial investment of $50 billion. Every member of BRICS will contribute USD 10 billion.
  3. PM inaugurates Largest Blast furnance in West Bengal:
    Costing worth rupees 16,000 Crore, India’s largest blast furnance ISP( IISCO Steel Plant) is inaugurated by the respected PM in Burnpur, West Bengal.

    ISP is modernized and now plant’s production capacity increased from 0.85 to 2.9 million tonnes per annum.

    This steel plant is the fifth largest plant of SAIL and is enabled to work with the latest green technologies producing no emission at all.
  4. “Namaste Russia” commenced in Russia:
    President Pranab Mukherjee commenced “Namaste Russia” a 7- month long festival of Indian art and culture in Moscow. The Festival will be celebrated from May to November 2015.

    The Festival is based on India’s Culture, Art, Cinema and Music and will held in cities like Moscow, Rostov-on-Don ,St Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Ufa Kislovodsk and more.

    Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) is hosting the festival as to build firm bonds between India and Russia.
  5. Results of Madrid Tennis open held in Spain:
    • Andy Murray of Britain won the men’s single title by 6-3 6-2. He beat up Rafael Nadalof of Spain.
    • Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic won Madrid open women’s single title by 6-1 6-2. He beats Sveltana Kuznetsova of Russia.
    • Rohan Bopaana and Florin Mergea won The men’s double title of Madrid Tennis open. They defeated Nenand Zimonjic and Martin Matkowski by 6-2, 6-7 ( 5), 11-9 .
