  1. Mohan Kumar appointed as a new Defense Secretary.
    IAS officer Mohan Kumar today appointed as new Defence Secretary of India. He will enjoy the two-year tenure for the position. In his career, he was serving as IAS officer of 1979 batch in Odisha cadre.

    Between 2010 and 2013 he has served as Commerce Ministry and in 2014, , he served as Steel Secretary. He has replaced Radha Krishna Mathur, a 1977 batch Manipur-Tripura cadre IAS officer, who completes his two-year tenure on May 28.
  2. International Day of Biological Diversity observed across the world:
    On 22nd May, International Day of Biological Diversity observed across the world. The purpose of this day observation is to make understand and aware people of biodiversity.

    In 1993, it was first celebrated by the second committee of the UN General Assembly and then in the 2000 year designed for the whole world to observe. The theme observed for 2015 is ‘Biodiversity for Sustainable Development’ which ponders the importance of efforts built at all degrees to lay down a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which is part of United Nations Post-2015 Development Agenda for the period of 2015-2030.
  3. IRCTC Partnership With MyDala:
    The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has joined hands with the MyDala website to offer their customers various deals and offers while buying tickets online. RCTC has launched a new microsite at that blasts various beneficial offers.

    The deals include various categories including Food & Drinks, clothing, beauty, fitness and recreation deals. Dr. A K Manocha, Chairman and Managing Director of IRCTC launched the tie-up and make a commitment to satisfy their customers. IRCTC recently ties with Amazon for eCommerce and Paytm for payments.
  4. India got the 6th position in terms of scientific publications:
    India got a 6th position in terms of scientific publications and publishing scientific research papers in different journals. According to Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary of Department of Science and Technology, India was on the tenth position earlier but now got sixth that shows efforts invested.

    A function was organized by Research Council UK to mark the improvement between the UK and India in the field of scientific research where Mr. Sharma proclaimed the efforts done and said that more efforts are required for better ranking.
  5. Jazz Musician Bob Belden died at the age of 58:

    A Grammy-winning Jazz Musician Bob Belden died at the age of 58. He was the first American musician who performed in Iran. Due to a severe heart attack, Belden died at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan.

    Bob was a well-known musician for making multi-artist thematic albums. In his lifetime he made album “Miles from India,” on which both musicians from Indian and American performed on Miles Davis tunes. This was a marvelous album and he got Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Album in 2009.
