  1. UN medal will be awarded 2 Indians among 126 peacemakers:
    From India, two Indian peacekeepers are chosen among the 126 military and police who will be awarded the UN medal posthumously. This selection is based on the bravery and sacrifice of the person while serving the world body’s peacekeeping operations.
    • Raju Joseph, who had served in a civilian capacity with the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS)
    • Lance Naik Nand Ram, who served with the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO)

    Both Indians will be awarded the Dag Hammarskjold Medal on the International Day of UN Peacekeepers celebrated every year on May 29.
  2. Jayalalitha sworn in as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu:
    Jayalalitha was sworn in as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu after former CM Mr O Panneerselvam resigned from his position. Jayalalitha sentenced for four years and in her absence, Mr. O Panneerselvam headed the government. Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah accepted his resignation and invited Ms. Jayalalitha to head the government.

    Case on Jayalalitha: She was charged with collecting money more than $10m (£6.4m) and vitiated on her luxury lifestyle and as of last she had to quit from her chief minister post. While putting raid on her premises, police found more than 10,000 saris and 750 pairs of shoes.
  3. Fighter aircraft successfully landed on Yamuna Expressway.
    In India, the first time a fighter aircraft ‘Mirage 2000‘of Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully landed on Yamuna Expressway near Mathura. This was a trial exercise to know how capable fighter aircraft is to land on road runways during emergencies.

    But the saddest part is many of the countries including Pakistan have already done. Pakistan has practiced this twice the first time in 2000 and then in 2010 again.

    The aim behind the use of highways and civil airstrips is that during war times landing is the first important aspect while targeting the enemy.
  4. Himachal successfully implemented ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign:
    In Himachal; Pardesh, district Una and Kinnaur, the campaign "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" is successfully implemented. In some parts of these districts, girl child sex ratio is on decline rate. So under campaign state government is using its machinery in such areas to recover the sex ratio.

    Moreover government is maintaining workshops to check that right execution of laws are practicing or not. The Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act is being implemented too.In addition, various measures have taken to check the misuse of pre-natal diagnostic techniques.
  5. Parvinder Singh first Indian origin Sikh appointed as mayor of Wokingham

    Parvinder singh became first Indian origin Sikh appointed as mayor of Britain’s Wokingham Borough Council. He is a Conservative party councillor replaced Councillor UllaKarin Clark from Mayor Position. His will serve this position till 2016.

    About Council: Councils in UK work to run daily matters of specific regions of a city or town and the mayor’s part is to host various fund-raising practices to boost up his region.
