Come out of the Dilemma: Switch To Government Jobs # Ratio and Proportion Based Questions

Ratio and Proportion is a Quantitative Aptitude concept that can be solved with various Tips and Tricks. The ratio concept usually introduces in school times with basic knowledge. But to crack the bank exams, we need to learn its shortcut, tip, and tricks to figure out the least time-taking ways. Let's see how

Type I:

A:B = 2:3
B:C = 1:4
What is A:B:C=?

Its comes out to be   A:B:C= 2:3:12

Type 2:

A: B= 1:2
B: C= 3:4
C: D=1:5
D: E= 2:3

What is A:B:C:D:E?

## Calculate A : B: C :D: E

• A ( All Numerators)= 1*3*1*2= 6
• B ( First Denominator and Three next Numberators)= 2 * 3*1*2=12
• C (First two Denominator and Last two Numberators) = 2*4*1*2 =16
• D ( First Three Denominator and Last Numerator)= 2*4*5*2= 80
• E ( All Denominators)= 2*4*5*3=120

A:B:C:D:E= 6:12:16:80:120

Divide by Common number 3
= 3:6:8:40:60

Type 3:

A: B= 2:3
B: C= 1:2
C: D=4:5

Removing Denominator by Taking LCM of Denominators

LCM of 3,2,5 = 30

Multiplying 30 with each ratio

It comes out to be 20: 15: 24

Type 4:

2A: 4B= 5C

What is A:B:C=?

Rule to Solve this Question:

Take the Numerator in the denominator as a fraction

2A= 1/2 A
4B = 1/4 B
5C= 1/5C

The LCM of 2,4,5 = 20

Multiplying LCM with each Ratio

It comes out to be 10A: 5B: 4C

## Let's Solve some of the Questions based On Ratio and Proportion:

Question1: Some money is divided among A, B, C in such a way that 5 times A's share, 3 times B's share, and 2 times C's share are all equal. The ratio between the share of A, B, C?

a) 5:3:2
b) 2:2:5
c) 15: 10:6
d) 6:10:15

Solutions:

5 A = 3B = 2C

Use Type 4

1/5 A = 1/3 B =1/2 C

LCM of 5, 3,2 =20

Multiplying with each ratio

6:10:15 (d)

Question2: The prices of a scooter and a television set are in ratio 3:2. If a scooter costs Rs. 6000 more than the television set, the price of the television is?

a)Rs. 6000
b)Rs. 10,000
c)Rs. 12,000
d)Rs. 18,000

Solution:

Let's say One part is divided into scooter and Television

If one part is 6000 then its

Third part =3 part of 6000= 3*6000=18,000
Second part = 2 part of 6000= 2*6000=12,000

Hence Television price = Rs 12,000 (c)

Question3: A certain amount was divided between Kavita and Reena in ratio 4:3? If Reena's share was Rs. 2400 then the amount is?

a) Rs. 5600
b) Rs.3200
c) Rs.9600
d) None of these

Solution:

Reena Share= Rs. 2400
Kavita/ Reena= 4/3

The difference in Reena and Reena share= 2400/3= 800

Kavita= 800 * 4 =Rs.3200 (b)

Question4: A sum of Rs. 1300 is divided between A, B, C, and D such that

is 2/3. Then A's share is?

a) Rs.140
b) Rs. 160
c) 26
d) 12

Solution:

A/B=B/C=C/D= 2/3

A/B= 2/3
B/C=2/3
C/D= 2/3

Using Type 2

A= 2*2*2 = 8
B= 3*2*2 =12
C= 3*3*2 = 18
D = 3*3*3=27

A's share = (8 / 8+12+18+27 ) * 1300=  Rs.160 (b)
